BELIEVE IT OR NOT, YOU CAN GET SERIOUSLY INJURED WHILE WALKING….AND TEXTING.

Navigating the sidewalks nowadays has become as challenging as a contact sport, like football or hockey. You and your fellow pedestrians are walking and texting more and more these days. The result is a lack of focus. This has directly lead to an increase in accidents and injuries. What should have been a casual walk, can turn tragic if you are not careful.
Our generation is more like the walking dead if you think about it. We have become the walking distracted. Do you know that the National Safety Council has added distracted walking to its annual report of unintentional deaths and injuries? That’s how serious this issue has become. Falling down the stairs, stepping into traffic are becoming more common these days and this is because people can no longer walk down the street without doing something on their mobile device.
If you can recall, on July 6th, 2016 Pokemon Go was released and in just 10 days, more than 110,000 incidents occurred involving both drivers and pedestrians. The pattern that’s forming is worrisome…people spend more time on their mobile devices while walking, leading to more accidents and injuries.
This issue has become such a problem that some towns such as Fort Lee, New Jersey have banned walking and texting. If a person is caught doing so, the fine is $85. This is just one way of how local government is trying to protect us from ourselves.
At The Lewis Law Group, we encourage you to share this message with your friends and family to prevent these injuries from happening. You never know, you might even save someone’s life.
